Artist's Statement
The search for harmony and beauty is never ending, and a source of great pleasure for me. Creating a work of art is a wonderful excursion into the world of beauty, design and intellectual stimulation. It is a learning experience as I am always reaching for new ideas and ways of presenting beauty in today’s world. I am strongly influenced by, and identify with, the American Aesthetic movement of the turn of the century, led by James McNeil Whistler and included Thomas Dewing, John Singer Sargent, Lila Cabot Perry, Willard Metcalf, and Edmund Tarbell. I am also intrigued by the Abstract Expressionism. I study nature for inspiration, exploring atmosphere, light, nuances of color and line, and how these interact. I enjoy the challenge of learning and growing as an artist and am constantly seeking to elevate my art to a higher plane while incorporating techniques that have been employed for literally hundreds of years. I strive to retain the luminous qualities and excellence of draftsmanship that were the hallmark of the great masters of bygone eras.
